Raffaello: An Impossible Exhibition in Beijing is an exhibit initiated by the Italian Institute of Culture in Beijing with the aim of introducing and helping the general public appreciate the most representative painter of the Italian Renaissance: Raphael Sanzio. The exhibition, which is supported by the Italian Embassy in China, chronologically presents, at Beijing Quanyechang Culture and Art Center, 48 pictorial works of Raphael in the form of reproductions that are strictly in accordance with the original works, life-sized, in high definition, and slightly backlit. This panoramic view of paintings, altarpieces, and the fresco of the School of Athens (7x5m) elicits great emotion because no one before - not even Raphael himself - had been able to admire all his paintings side by side. This exhibition is “impossible” because anyone wishing to appreciate the original paintings, here reproduced at a 1:1 scale, would have to travel between twenty-one cities across three continents. The exhibition is accompanied by an audio guide available in Chinese upon request, and an audio guide in Italian, French, and English that visitors can access directly on their smartphones by scanning a QR code at the entrance.
