La scena principe dell’opera non è posizionata al centro del quadro, bensì sulla sinistra e raffigura lo svenimento del Cristo all’annuncio della Passione. Egli, sorretto da un angelo, viene illuminato dalla luce dello Spirito Santo, che lo porta fuori dal buio del resto del quadro. Sulla scena retrostante troviamo un rudere greco e un gruppo di persone giacenti a terra e inghiottiti dalle tenebre.

The main scene of the work is not positioned in the centre of the painting, but on the left and depicts the fainting of Christ at the announcement of the Passion. On the scene behind us is a Greek ruin and a group of people lying on the ground and swallowed up by darkness.
