Il 18 aprile 2018 Luca Jahier è stato eletto Presidente del Comitato economico e sociale europeo (CESE), con un mandato di due anni e mezzo che scadrà nell'ottobre 2020. Jahier è membro del Comitato dal 2002; in questi anni di attività in seno al CESE, si è occupato a fondo dei settori della politica sociale e della politica di coesione dell'Unione europea nonché di questioni internazionali. Nel settembre 2004 è stato eletto vicepresidente della sezione specializzata Occupazione, Affari sociali, Cittadinanza del CESE. Nell'ottobre 2006 è stato eletto vicepresidente del III gruppo, membro dell'Ufficio di presidenza del Comitato per due anni e membro dei comitati consultivi misti UE-Croazia e UE-Turchia. Dall'ottobre 2008 al 2010 è stato presidente del comitato di monitoraggio ACP-UE e presidente del gruppo permanente Immigrazione e integrazione. Nell'ottobre 2011 è stato eletto presidente del III gruppo del CESE, incarico confermato nel gennaio 2013 e nell'ottobre 2015 e in virtù del quale è membro dell'Ufficio di presidenza del CESE. Nel corso dei suoi tre mandati di presidente, il III gruppo ha realizzato 9 studi, organizzato 42 convegni in 17 paesi dell'UE con migliaia di partecipanti e tenuto innumerevoli riunioni con organizzazioni della società civile europea.

Luca Jahier has been elected President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) on 18 April 2018 for a period of two and a half years, until October 2020. He has been a member of the Committee since 2002. Within the EESC, he has worked extensively on the European Union's social and cohesion policies, as well as on international matters. In September 2004, he was elected vice-president of the EESC's Section for Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship. In October 2006, he was elected vice-president of Group III, member of the Committee Bureau for two years and member of the EU-Croatia and EU-Turkey Joint Consultative Committees. From October 2008 to 2010, he was president of the ACP-EU Follow-up Committee and president of the Permanent group on Immigration and Integration. In October 2011, he was elected president of Group III of the EESC, and was re-elected in January 2013 and in October 2015. In this capacity, he has been a member of the EESC's Bureau. Over the course of three terms in office as president, Group III carried out nine studies, and held 42 conferences in 17 EU countries attended by thousands of people and countless meetings with European civil society organisations. He was nominated unanimously by Group III for the post of EESC's President.
